Exploring Shapes

Over the past few weeks your student has been studying geometry and attributes of shapes by exploring shapes. Shapes are everywhere!! Ask your students to describe shapes by using math vocabulary and you will be amazed!! Your student has been manipulating and creating shapes, designs, and patterns. Today we created our own triangles on the geoboards and they had a blast!!!

These kids are just too cute!! 🙂

Spelling Words

Next Tuesday, October 28, there will be a spelling test. The students will also be responsible for knowing all words they have learned so far in Kindergarten and 1st grade. In class we call these words “No Excuse Words” because the students have “no excuse” not to know how to read, write, and spell these words. They are posted in our classroom on the Word Wall and are practiced daily in stations.

Students are not only responsible for these words on their spelling test but are also graded and held accountable through their authentic writing in class and on assignments.

Please continue to study these words. Make it fun!!! Write the words in shaving cream or sand. Let the students paint them or use markers. Let them decorate them silly or write them in a funny way! Anything to help them practice, read, and recognize these words even better.
